Diabetes Control: Day One

So here I am making one of those famous New Year's resolutions. What is this one? To control my diabetes and get off the medications. Why? Well, this time around, I have been researching more information and have realized that if I don't control this disease, it will kill me and medications that may or may not help to control will also end up killing me just as readily. Talk about a wake up call!
First challenge: information overload - there is a lot of information available about diabetes but much of it is either confusing or contradictory. How do you know what to believe? For me, I started looking at the common factors in order to get a handle on what might work. The other thing I had to realize here is that there is no "one size fits all" program. Everyone is different and things that may work well for one person will not work for another so time to get ready and try things til I find out what works for me.
So here I go. The plan I am trying calls for a period of extremely low carbs until the blood glucose normalizes and then a slow reintroduction of good carbs after that til I reach the levels that will allow me to maintain healthy blood glucose levels and hopefully still enjoy some of the foods I love.
Started with my supplements regime today and will try to count carbs and make the goal. I am also challenging myself to get active and add some exercise to my daily living.
This blog is my promise to myself to take control of my life and make better choices. In the end that is what it is all about: choices. It is my decision to be healthy, my choice to pursue the dream of being free of drugs. Here's to DAY ONE of a whole new life!
